What is inspiration?
Lets look at the definition of inspiration from the dictionary as seen below.
inspiration:
1. an inspiring or animating action or influence: I cannot write poetry without inspiration.
2. something inspired, as an idea.
3. a result of inspired activity.
4. a thing or person that inspires.
5. Theology.
a. a divine influence directly and immediately exerted upon the mind or soul.
b. the divine quality of the writings or words of a person so influenced.
6. the drawing of air into the lungs; inhalation.
7. the act of inspiring; quality or state of being inspired.

Dan Cates: Inspiration is the word used to define the process of the handing down of Scriptures from God to man. The Bible affirms that it is inspired in II Timothy 3:16,17, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” To say that the Bible is inspired in the Biblical sense of the Word involves also the understanding that all of it is inspired, and that not just the thoughts are inspired, but the very words of it are inspired as we can read in I Corinthians 2:13, “Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.” The word inspiration means “God breathed” and an honest heart can know assuredly that only God could have produced such a marvelous work. Many people try to take away from the inspiration of Scripture, and it should be noted that this happens even among some who call themselves “Christians”.
My view about inspiration: I had written about my views on inspiration at PeaceInspiration.com some time back. These are what I had written: Inspiration is Love and Where is my Inspiration.
And now, what I think about inspiration? During my first trimester of my pregnancy, from about 7-18 weeks of my pregnancy, I was feeling so nauseous and uncomfortable in my whole body. I cannot do anything at all, but just lying on the bed or eat only. It is such a terrible feeling, and I just have no inspiration, really no inspiration to do anything at all. And now, I am in my third trimester of pregnancy and I had began my work again on my websites (not ‘full load’ yet, but at least better than the first trimester). So I would say, inspiration is Energy. It is a sudden ‘influx’ of energy that comes from within you when you are at rest, peaceful and calm. It is the moment of time where you have a sudden idea, whereby you could say to yourself,”aha!”, and “why I never think of that!” and things like that. So inspiration is Energy and idea.
Sometimes inspiration just come when you are in the midst of doing your work, while at times, inspiration comes when you are at a state where you do not know what to do. In the latter case, just by watching the people around you, putting your task aside, and have a relaxing bath/shower or even do the things you enjoy doing. Your inspiration will come somehow.
